Lovely Autumn!

We always feel that Fall is the start of a new year. When young, shiny yellow pencils and reams of smooth lined paper were exciting. Now that we are all grown up (well sort of) bringing in new stock for all of our vintage loving friends is really exciting!!

In the coming weeks we will be transitioning the shop to a new season. You can look forward to great knits, classy tweed suits, fur coats & collars, Gatsby inspired feather headbands, chic leathers for guys & gals & so much more! We have also ordered some fun vintage influenced items from the recent Alberta Gift Show and will soon be receiving gorgeous lace gloves, novelty rings, glitzy jewelry, hats, hair accessories, etc.

On pretty much a daily basis, new collectibles acquired on a recent trip to British Columbia, will be coming out for sale. Great lamps, chalkware, California Pottery and so much more. At month's end, Bonnie is traveling to Texas for the annual Fall Antiques Week held between Houston & Austin with literally thousands of participating dealers. It promises to be crazy fun and she hopes to bring home some unique items!!

We didn't really know for sure until 7am Saturday morning that we were on for the Vintage with Flair sale in Priddis. It warmed our hearts to see eager shoppers lined up at the ropes before opening!! You are wonderful for coming to support all of the small, local businesses who work so hard at their craft. 

We also appreciated all the people asking if our shop would be okay during the flood situation and we are happy to report, that while we have not been there physically, we have heard that everything is dry, quiet and safe in the Beltline and our vintage corner of town! We hope to be back in business as soon as our power is restored and street reopening, possibly by June 26th??

We met so many new people and of course, were thrilled to see some of our diehard customers who never miss an event...you are truly vintage rockstars!!

Thanks again, you don't know how much your support means to us!! We are blessed to be able to connect with so many wonderful humans by doing what we love. ♥

Take a Vintage Vacation at Vintage with Flair!!

It's that time of year again for our favorite country sale...Vintage with Flair! This annual vintage show features over 25 hand picked vendors from Southern Alberta whose specialties are vintage and repurposed goods and is a shoppers dream. From amazing jewellery to furniture to kitschy collectibles, we love to both shop & sell at this one!!

Priddis is a short and scenic 20 minute drive from the city limits, just off Hwy 22X. The venue is the community hall, but just look for the big white carnival tent and you'll know you have arrived!! A Vintage Affair will be inside the main hall with our good friend Colleen from Blush Vintage Rentals right as our neighbor (all cozy and dry...but we know the sun is coming soon!) We are bringing lots of goodies in especially for this show, so they have not been in the shop yet! FYI - we will accept cash, Mastercard and Visa but no debit.

We are tickled pink that our inaugural Vintage Wedding Showcase event was loved by so many this past weekend!

Our A Spoonful of Vintage members worked tirelessly for months to make this happen and you all loved it - there is no better feeling!

How to hold a vintage wedding on BTV!

Yesterday was a fun day for all of us as we had the privilege to appear on Breakfast Television to promote our upcoming Vintage Wedding Showcase.

Rachelle and Shannon looked absolutely splendid in their authentic 1950s wedding gowns, complete with headpieces from BoutiqueJuJu and amazing bouquets from Sarah Mayerson Design.

Sarah also worked in collaboration with Colleen Walker of Blush Vintage Rentals to make this romantic Jane Austen inspired tabletop using wonderful vintage elements from milk and depression glass to a vintage camera. They also incorporated a darling vintage inspired engagement photo by Tara Whittaker Photography.

The countdown begins toward The Vintage Wedding Showcase!!

So much is happening so quickly in preparation for April 21st for The Vintage Wedding Showcase!

Tomorrow is our appearance on Breakfast Television at 7:45am and Bonnie will talk about how to have a vintage themed wedding. We'll be showing two lovely authentic 1950s wedding dresses and Blush Vintage Rentals have designed an outstanding tabletop using a variety of Jane Austen inspired vintage elements. If you miss it, catch the video online on BTV's website. 

What are we looking forward to most at the show??? Well, let me tell you there is so much inspiration going on it is hard to choose. One new addition to our show is a gorgeous 1950's Chevy Deluxe on display outside which will make for a fabulous photo opportunity! Also, we are pleased to welcome a mini version of Lemondrop, a Calgary jazz group with songstress Heather Blush, who will perform alongside our 1920s styled Speakeasy Lounge by Blush Vintage Rentals. Just wondering, is it legal to bring that moonshine still and make some hooch at the event ;)

Spring & Weddings!!

Well the weather might not exactly be all daffodils and sunshine, but the new clothes are sure bright and cheery! We have been busy putting out new Spring stock every day and it is fabulous! Lots of pinks and yellows in great florals, stripes and novelty prints!

We are also getting into "wedding mode" for The Vintage Wedding Showcase which happens next month! We've been prepping lots of gowns for our mini fashion shows and our store display at the event...and let me tell you...they are beautiful!! We even have recently scored some amazing Victorian and Edwardian dresses that are pretty special.

The Vintage Wedding Showcase is coming!

A Vintage Affair is part of a team of local businesses who love everything "Vintage, Bridal & Fabulous"!. We are hosting Calgary's first ever Vintage Wedding Showcase to be held on Sunday, April 21st at the adorably vintage Mount Pleasant Community Center.

Tickets available for $10 advance until March 31st, then $12. (Please note that Eventbrite fees apply for online purchases). Tickets will also be available in person at A Vintage Affair (638 - 11th Avenue SW) and at the door.

We have recently acquired hundreds of new items from our buy-out of a BC vintage store, many of those items will be hitting the floor for the first time that night!!

Also on display will be some of our lovely & rare 1920s beaded flapper dresses!!

What a year!!

Looking back at the past year of A Vintage Affair it is a bit of a whirlwind experience. What started off as a pop-up shop in a gorgeous Beltline store ended up as our permanent location. We never dreamed that would happen & we are so, so glad it did!!

We sure had a lot of parties...we just like having people over for a glass of wine on a regular basis!! Whether it was a launch party, Retro Hair School Class private shopping night or Block Party...we enjoyed seeing our regular customers and made lots of new friends. 

We participated in several fun out of store events like Vintage Chicks, two East Village sales,  the PARK sale and were sponsors for the The SWAP Team and The Al Capone Charade by Toe Tappin' Swing...so much fun getting out of the shop and taking it on the road.

One of our funnest projects all year was working with our talented friend Tara Whittaker to produce some great photos in preparation to launch our Vintage Bridal Collection (stay tuned for more on that in the near future). We also formed A Spoonful of Vintage, a group of like minded vintage loving wedding vendors and we look forward to more projects with them!

So, thanks to all of you who stop by to say hello, try on a frock, admire the jewellery, buy your "dream dress"...without your support we couldn't have done it!!

And....of course we will be having a party next month to celebrate our One Year Anniversary, more on that to come!!!!
